Yesterday, Webbie and I completed our second annual Cookies for the Homeless. Huh?
It’s simple. Wonder what I’ve done with all the cookies from the past few weeks? Nope – we didn’t eat them (because really, who needs more butter & sugar this time of year). Instead, we froze them. Packed them in tins…
and delivered them to the folks who gather in Mcpherson Square in Downtown D.C.
We handed out 20 tins in less than 1 minute (kid you not), which filled our hearts with joy, but also a sad dose of reality because of the overwhelming need.
Will 20 tins of cookies make a dent in the hunger crisis? Absolutely not. It’s a step in the right direction though, and for the 20 men and women we met, we hope we gave them a spirit of hope.
What greater gift is there on Christmas?
“To eat bread without hope is still slowly to starve to death.”
